Things of Beauty #40
Bouquets from furry friends; more, please; and a little sale on subscriptions
Happy New Year! Whether 2023 was your best year ever or you’re just as thrilled to usher it out the door (or perhaps somewhere in between those two ends of the spectrum)— there’s no denying it’s here.
In the spirit of the year-end, here’s a brief look back at what got read the most here at Healthier Hustle:
Plus, in full first-post-of-the-new-year energy, I’ve got a little note about what I want more of in 2024 (perhaps the prompt will resonate with you as well).
And if you’ve been thinking about subscribing to The Healthier Hustle in the new year, now’s a great time to do so, as yearly subscriptions are on sale for $35 through January 15.
Tiny sparkles of new year joy:
💐 This flower gathering Pica, who I imagine is bringing us all a lovely bouquet to kick off 2024:
❤️ Elise Blaha Cripe’s list of what she wants more of in 2024. This idea just really resonates with me this year, and I’m grateful for the inspiration. Here’s my list:
📙 A small smattering of Substacks I’m excited to keep reading in 2024 (in case more reading is something you’re looking to do in the new year):

🥰 Two things that surprised me in 2023:
Wearing a watch. I had a Garmin watch that I bought used from a friend’s sister to see if I liked tracking my running with (results: I do!). When it stopped charging recently (after many, many, many years of good service— including 2 marathons), I decided to replace it with a newer one. My intention was to continue as I had been and use it just for running, but I’ve found myself wearing this swanky new one sometimes even when I’m not exercising. It’s been nice to glance at the time or set a timer for something I’m cooking without picking up my phone, and it’s sort of fascinating to watch my heart rate. I still don’t think it will be a daily wear for me, but as someone who hasn’t worn a watch in well over 20 years (even in the stone ages when I didn’t have a phone to tell me the time), this has been a fun surprise.
Baking bread. I’ve written about my sourdough baking before. I’m still loving it. And I remain surprised that it somehow manages to be super fussy and not fussy at all at the same time.
Have you surprised yourself recently? What do you want more of in 2024? Any Substack (or other) recommendations for me?
Be well, find tiny joy-
Mary-Chris
